Today I set out to make a few corrections to the boss levels table in last week’s levels post. It was more difficult than I’d anticipated. As with dungeon level recommendations, there is significant disagreement on the levels of various bosses.
Now, I understand that bosses did not always have the same levels they were originally assigned. TAGN pointed out that dungeons and boss levels were tweaked significantly in Wrath of the Lich King, for example. But the sources I’ve consulted should all be reporting specs much closer to initial release.
An example of a frustrating discrepancy was Charlga Razorflank, a.k.a. The Crone, in Razorfen Kraul. We haven’t run Razorfen yet in Classic, so I don’t have first-hand knowledge (or memory) of her level. Here’s the range of levels I found during research.
Source | alleged level |
---|---|
Wowhead Classic | 33 |
Classic DB | 37 |
Wowpedia | 35 |
Icy Veins | 33 |
Dungeon Companion* | 33-34 |
* According to xcadranx on Reddit, the Dungeon Companion covered WoW v1.12.
From this I can surmise that she’s probably level 33, but then what’s with Classic DB reporting her at 37? And Wowpedia at 35? Why did the Dungeon Companion provide a range?
In a comment on the Classic DB page (from back in 2007) someone reported that her level was reduced to 27, but only after patch 2.3. At the time I’m writing this post, Classic is still at 1.12, as far as I know.
Anyway, I find this interesting, if not a little frustrating when trying to compile a table of information. Be sure to comment below if you know the reason for the discrepancies or have other knowledge to share!
Are we going to have to go do RFK 3 or 4 times now to get some measurements?
